Dental Veneers

When you come to us at DiMeo Family Dental, and your dental issue requires veneers, we have a variety from which you can choose. Dental veneers are fine shells that are bonded to teeth to cover their front surface and so improve their appearance. As such, they have both aesthetic and protective functions.

Which Dental Problems Do We Treat with Veneers?

We recommend veneers if you have discolored teeth due to the use of drugs such as tetracycline, excessive amounts of fluoride, or root canal treatments, among other causes. We will also advise you to consider veneers if your teeth are worn out, chipped, or broken, in which case they have lost their natural shape and appeal.

A non-appealing smile may result from teeth that have gaps between them. Your smile may also be affected by teeth with irregular shape as a result of bulges or craters. Also, misaligned teeth that cause an uneven or crooked bite affect the appeal of your smile. In many of these cases, we will suggest the use of veneers.

Types of Veneers and How We Place Them

Veneers are usually made from one of two types of materials; porcelain and composite resin. We often recommend porcelain veneers because they are stronger and last longer. It is also easier to replicate the shade of your natural teeth when we use porcelain veneers. They are also less prone to discoloration and staining, and we do not need to file away a lot of your natural enamel as is the case with dental caps.

When placing porcelain veneers, we will first prepare your tooth by removing the unwanted enamel or dental filling it to create a shape that allows the veneer to be placed and give your tooth a natural look. We then make an impression of the tooth and send it to the lab so the veneer can be molded. We ensure that the veneer is ready by your next visit when we will place it on the tooth to test its fit. We will then perform a typical cleaning before bonding the veneer to the tooth.

Composite resin veneers are made by bonding tooth-colored composite resin directly to the teeth. The main benefit of using this type of material is that the patient pays less than when we use porcelain. Like porcelain veneers, composite resin veneers do not require us to file away a lot of your tooth’s enamel. You also don’t need multiple visits to place composite veneers. At times, a single visit may suffice. Although not as strong as porcelain veneers, composite resin veneers are easier and faster to repair in case of damage.

When placing composite veneers, we file the tooth to shape before skillfully bonding and sculpturing the tooth-colored resin on your tooth. Once the cementing is done, we light-cure the resin to dry it and then polish it to smoothen and give your tooth a natural look. If you have teeth that need veneer treatment, visit us any day of the week or call (772) 266-0962 at DiMeo Family Dental to make inquiries or book your appointment.
